What Happens When Your Flight Is Delayed

Worried about a delayed flight pickup? Apex tracks every flight in real time, so your chauffeur is waiting when you land, at no extra cost.

A delayed flight pickup is the thing that worries travellers most when they book their own taxi to the airport. It's rarely the drive there. Instead, it's the return leg: will the driver still be waiting if the flight's late, and will there be a fight about it when you land? This is the part of an airport transfer a chauffeur service actually exists to solve.

How does Apex know a delayed flight needs a later pickup?

When you book, you give us your flight number. We enter it into a live tracking system that monitors it from the moment we confirm your booking until your chauffeur collects you. If the airline updates the expected landing time, that update reaches your chauffeur automatically. Then the time of your delayed flight pickup moves with it. Nobody has to phone in and explain that the flight's running late, because the system has already worked it out. You can also check live arrivals yourself on airport websites such as Heathrow's, but you don't need to.

Does a delayed flight pickup cost extra?

No. The fare you agree when you book covers the flight as scheduled and any reasonable delay on top of it. That's a deliberate part of how Apex prices a booking. So it isn't something you have to ask for or negotiate on the day. For example, a flight might arrive two hours late because of weather or an aircraft swap. A passenger has no control over that, so we don't think they should pay more for it either.

What if the flight is delayed by a very long time, or cancelled?

For a substantial delay, your chauffeur will usually contact you directly to confirm the new plan. That's better than simply turning up hours early and waiting the whole time unannounced. If the airline cancels your flight and rebooks you for a different day, get in touch. We'll then move your delayed flight pickup to match your new travel date.

Waiting time explained

Every airport pickup includes 60 minutes of free waiting from the point your flight actually lands. That covers the walk from the gate, immigration if applicable, and baggage reclaim. The allowance is generous enough for a normal arrival without you feeling rushed. Also, it's one of the details worth knowing before you travel, rather than discovering it for the first time at the kerb.

Why this matters more than the car itself

A nice car matters less than a driver who's actually there when you land. In short, that's what flight tracking does behind the scenes. It removes the guesswork from the one part of the journey you have the least control over. A smooth delayed flight pickup is a quiet piece of the service rather than something Apex talks about loudly. Even so, it's often the reason people come back and book again.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to update Apex myself if my flight is delayed?

No. We track flights automatically once your flight number is on the booking. So there's nothing you need to do or report yourself.

How much free waiting time is included after landing?

You get sixty minutes from actual landing as standard, to cover baggage reclaim and getting through the terminal. Your chauffeur will always be visible at the agreed meeting point within that window.

What happens if I land and can't see my driver straight away?

Every driver carries contact details for the booking. They will get in touch if there's any uncertainty about the meeting point, particularly at busier terminals with multiple exits.
